What is a pilot bearing?
It is common that at the end of a cars crankshaft, there is a small hole in the center. This hole is for inserting a pilot bearing. The advantages of a pilot bearing are as follows:
- Greater stability of the gearbox input shaft
- No flexing of beinding of the input shaft
- Assists in installation and centering of clutch
- Increases the maximum torque load of the input shaft
