In simple terms, a seamless shift refers to a gear change that does not require any ingnition cut, fuel cut or any other torque reduction method. Hence the „seamless" transition into the higher gear.
How does it work?
There are many ways of engineering the actual shift mechanism inside or outside of the gearbox to allow for a seamless shift, but the way that the dogring moves on the shaft in the gearbox is still the same. In a seamless shift gearbox, in the process of upshifting, there are 2 gears simultaneously engaged for a few milliseconds, however the gearbox will automatically kick out the previous engaged gear due to the angle cut of the dog gear and dog ring.
In the Kotouc Gearboxes seamless shift, we have engineered a special sequential mechanism that allows the seamless shift on a single selector barrel. Whereas formula one has 2 selector barrels and all controlled electronically, prostock dragracing have multiple shift rods and a special lockout mechanism externally, our special seamless shift mechanism is a new patent pending technological revolution that save both additional parts and weight.
